CHASTE can be easily installed in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (64-bit) using the deb package provided by the development team.
Follow the steps below:

1) Install packages needed for version control and plotting:

sudo apt-get install subversion git octave gnuplot

2) Simulation results are stored in /tmp/$USER/ directory. On Ubuntu machines this directory is cleaned up by default at boot. Set cleanup frequency to never by adding TMPTIME=-1 to /etc/default/rcS

3) Add the CHASTE repository to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/chaste.list by adding the line:

deb http://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/chaste/ubuntu /

4) Install the CHASTE package after importing the public licence key. This will install all the necessary dependencies:

sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 422C4D99
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install chaste-source

5) Clone the latest development source code in $HOME (or other storage location):

git clone https://github.com/Chaste/Chaste.git

6) Test your installation by navigating to the Chaste directory and running:

scons test_suite=cell_based/test/tutorial/TestCellBasedDemoTutorial.hpp

Make sure all tests pass and the results are stored in /tmp/$USER/testoutput/ directory.
